Due to a mechanical issue (well pump) in the school building, the DAMASCUS AREA SCHOOL will operate on a Flexible Instruction Day (FID – virtual learning) on Friday, February 13, 2026.
Damascus students should not report to school on this day. Instead, they will complete their instructional activities and assignments from home via remote learning. It is anticipated that the mechanical issue will be resolved and school will resume normal procedures on Tuesday - February 17, 2026, following the holiday weekend.
This communication DOES NOT impact any other Wayne Highlands school. All schools, other than Damascus, will operate normally (to include transportation), on Friday - February 13, 2026.
Congratulations to the WHMS Science Olympiad Team
Congratulations to the WHMS Science Olympiad Team! The team is composed of fifteen 6th through 9th grade students and 2 alternates that compete in 23 different events related to all areas of science. All of the events required a great deal of preparation. Some are very content oriented whereas others require the student to build a device that will be tested, and others require performance of skills related to a field of science. All events have strict rules as to how the work must be completed. High school teacher, Kelly O’Neill, and middle school teacher, Karen Martin, coach the team. At the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional competition held on March 12th, the team placed 5th and qualified for the State Competition on April 26th at Penn State Altoona. This is the 13th year in a row that the Wayne Highlands Middle School has qualified for the state event.
