2022 Health and Safety Plan Update
January 26, 2022
Dear Wayne Highlands School Community:
The following is an update outlining approved changes to the Health and Safety Plan. At last night's Board meeting, after much consideration, the Board of Directors approved revisions to the current plan. Please know that careful monitoring of current conditions will continue and that these protocols may be revised based on conditions and/or new guidelines, mandates, and recommendations. To see the approved revisions, please visit the district website at www.whsdk12.com.
The change most noteworthy is that beginning Monday, January 31, 2022, students and staff will be strongly encouraged, but not required to wear masks while inside or outside the school buildings. Many of the elements of the plan will remain intact. For example, as per the CDC mandate, students will still be required to wear masks on district-sponsored transportation. Social distancing will continue to be accomplished to the best of our ability. The reporting of positive cases, quarantining of positive and symptomatic cases, hand washing and respiratory etiquette, cleaning/disinfecting protocols, and contact tracing and reporting will all be continued. In regard to close contacts and quarantine there is a significant change. Those students that are asymptomatic close contacts will be permitted to continue with in-person learning and activities with masking strongly recommended, but they must continue to monitor health symptoms (i.e. fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, runny nose, etc.). If symptoms present, individuals should stay home to further monitor health and get tested.
You can be confident that the district will continue to monitor the situation closely. We strive to achieve continuity of education in a healthy and safe manner.
Sincerely,
GREGORY FRIGOLETTO
District Superintendent
