HHS crowns prom royalty
The Honesdale High School Junior-Senior Prom was held Saturday, May 5, at the Bryn Mawr Mountain Retreat and Conference Center in Honesdale.
This year, the theme was enchanted forest, and 314 students, staff and security personnel attended the event.
A buffet dinner was served in the main banquet dining room with DJ Nick Slish of Triple “S” DJ Service providing the music.
Advisor Kari Kromko was in charge of crowning the 2018 King and Queen.
Alex Jachens, son of Steven Jachens, was crowned King.
Alex was escorted by Nicole Roberts, and actively participates with the coffee cart and recycling programs, Class of 2018 activities and the Special Olympics.
After graduation, he plans to enter the workforce.
Leah Jay, daughter of Sean and Tracy Jay of Milanville, was crowned Queen.
Leah was escorted by Chris Urban, and is a member of the varsity field hockey team, Student Council, Interact Club and 2018 Club.
She plans to attend Marywood University to major in interior architecture and design.
Other prom finalists included:
• Hannah Burlein is the daughter of Steven and Elise Burlein of Honesdale.
Hannah was escorted by Darien Franklin.
She is a member of the varsity swim team, Student Council, Interact Club and 2018 Club. Hannah is also a member of the National Honor Society.
She plans to attend Lafayette College on a ROTC scholarship and train to be an Army Officer and physician.
• Anthony DeGori is the son of Rocco and Vanessa DeGori of Damascus.
He was escorted by Rachel Heffron, and is a member of the Interact Club and the National Honor Society.
Anthony is also a captain of the basketball team.
He plans to attend Marywood University to continue his basketball career while obtaining a degree in nursing.
• Dariana Durdach is the daughter of Mary Richardson of Honesdale, and was escorted by Gavin Kelly.
She is a member of Student Council, Interact Club and St. John’s Youth Group.
Dariana plans to attend Wilkes University and major in nursing.
• Beau Freiermuth is the son of Michele Vail of Lakeville and Rick Freiermuth of Beach Lake.
He was escorted by Adri Vender, and is a First-Team All-Star and Captain of the football team.
Beau plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in criminal justice.
• Michael Kirk is the son of William and Barbara Kirk of Damascus.
He was escorted by Kalah Gries, and is a member of Student Council.
He is also a member of the cross county team, tennis team, band, chorus, wind ensemble, chamber choir and the all school musical.
He plans to attend Duquesne University to study vocal performance to earn a Bachelor of Music degree.
• Megan McGinnis is the daughter of Kevin and Cindy McGinnis of Honesdale.
She was escorted by Nic Vlacich.
Megan is a member of the Interact Club, Class of 2018 Club, Student Council and Captain of the Boys Basketball Cheerleading squad.
She plans to attend Bloomsburg University to major in Elementary and Special Education.
• Kyle Peer is the son of Diane Kenyon of Equinunk
and Robert Peer of Honesdale.
He is escorted by Gabrielle Issert.
Kyle is a member of Student Council, Interact Club and Card Club.
He plans to attend York College and major in criminal justice.
• Audrey Zielinski is the daughter of George and Peggy Zielinski of Prompton.
She was escorted by Andy Carroll, and is a member of Student Council, Interact Club, and is captain of the Boys Basketball Cheerleading squad.
She is also a member of the National Honor Society and a Blood Drive Committee Chairperson.
She plans to attend the University of Scranton.
